At our 2019 AGM Roy Calthorpe was elected as our Honorary President. He had also been our Chairman for twelve years. It is with much sadness that we announce that Roy died in February 2021.

Roy and his wife, Em, had been enthusiastic members and loved going to St Valery and leading us in all the events there and in Battle. He told us that he had a feeling of déjà vu on his first visit to St Valery and he later discovered that his father had convalesced there during World War I. This lead us to preparing an exhibition of ‘St Valery yesterday and today’ in our library.

Roy used his artistic talents throughout our town and restored our St Valery sign at the church. He designed our logo recently. He was an expert ceramicist, making plaques for our visitors to commemorate our fortieth anniversary of twinning.

Our town will greatly miss this friend to one and all.
